A week under the weather and out the shop

25 Nov 2019

So, my expectation that I’d get some shop time before heading to Wales last week was incorrect - I really was quite unwell, which bled into our holiday a little, but I did manage a few days in the hills of Wales to reset my soul a little after my body finished trying to reset.

Very frustrating, but if you’re ill then it’s rarely a good idea to try push on with complicated or delicate work, just rest up to get better soon and then get back to it. Yes, you’ll be behind, but you’ll not put at risk all the time you’ve invested to date on a build for the sake a few days.

So, a new week and a lot to catch up on!

The only thing of note I have from the last week is that Autodesk Fusion 360 changed their licensing recently to split out the personal and startup licensing, which hither-to had been lumped together, which never made sense to me. The new model makes more sense, even if it is slightly more overhead for me - I see lots of people at places like Makespace wanting to use Fusion 360 to get into 3D printing and laser cutting for personal projects, and so having an explicit personal license for this people makes the process of getting them up and running that little bit easier.

Startup licensing is now something you have to apply for rather than just get on an honour system, but the bonus for that effort is you get full access to Fusion 360, whereas before certain features were locked away from you.

I successfully registered as a startup (thanks Autodesk!), which means at some point I should take a look to see what new features I have access to that might help with making interesting custom guitars!
